Money for food is coming to families with children in BPS in May. Watch your mail for a P-EBT card or look for the funds to be added to the EBT card you already have.

Hello JFK Parents,
Families in our school district will be receiving financial assistance for food due to the COVID-19 pandemic starting in May under a new program called Pandemic EBT or P-EBT.
This is in addition to the free school lunches. BPS will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch until the end of the school year. Click here to find your nearest location.
As our school provides free meals to all students, every child in Boston Public Schools will receive P-EBT funds. You will receive $5.70 per child enrolled in BPS per day for every day school is closed, or $28.50 a week.
Check your mailbox: you will receive a P-EBT card in the mail in May. Or, if you currently have an EBT card, funds will be added to your account. The money can be used to buy food items at stores where SNAP benefits (food stamps) are accepted.
IMPORTANT: Using your P-EBT card does not impact you or your child’s immigration status. The public charge rule does not apply to this program.

The funds on this card can only be used by your family. If you do not use the funds they will not be re-allocated to another family they will simply expire.
Lots of families have asked what to do with the cards if they don’t have a need. There is no way to donate the cards or transfer the funds to others. If you don’t use the funds they will stay on the card for one year and then expire.
Neighbor to neighbor, people CAN shop for food with the card and donate the purchases to a pantry. The JFK parent council urges you to use these cards and not throw them away no matter your financial need.
If you do not feel you need this assistance we have listed food pantries below that will accept food donations as an alternative use of the funds on the card.
When this program ends in June do not destroy your card. Their may be additional assistance coming depending on the COVID situation.
