 Weekly Updates : April 13-17 This month’s Family Council Meeting will be VIRTUAL ONLY this Thursday, April 16th, from 5:30-6:30pm. We will be discussing plans for the rest of the school year, including Teacher Appreciation week, the Wake Up the Earth parade, looking for volunteers for upcoming events and starting to discuss upcoming Family Council elections. In June, we will be electing a co-treasurer, co-communications manager, co-engagement chair and a minimum of 3 school site council positions for SY 2026-27. Wellness Night is just 2 weeks away – Sign up HERE to bring a dish to share. This year, for the first time, we will also have a cooking contest featuring local chefs & JFK families! We could especially use help with setting up & breaking down. April 30th, 4-6:30pm in the school yard. Everyone is welcome! How to show appreciation for our teachers: Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8 and the Family Council is asking that instead of bringing a gift for your individual teacher that you instead bring in something for all the teachers & staff to share – cookies, flowers for the front desk or teacher’s lounge, or if you can’t bring something in, you can donate to the Family Council and we will provide a special lunch for all the teachers & staff that week. Of course, we still encourage you to share a note or other personal gesture to show your appreciation for your child’s individual teacher! We will even have a card making station at the school on May 3rd from 3-4pm during the decorating of the schoolyard. Volunteer HERE to help decorate the schoolyard – or just swing by! This year it has been a goal of Dr. Copeland’s and the Family Council to make teacher appreciation more equitable for both families & staff and also to find ways to show our teachers & staff our appreciation throughout the school year and not just during the nationally recognized week in May. In February, the Family Council hired two massage therapists to come in and treat ALL the teachers & staff at JFK to 15 minute chair massages and they REALLY appreciated it. Every staff member, from Dr. Copeland & teachers to lunch & facilities staff, felt included and cared for. If you are able to make a monetary donation, the Family Council will continue to gift the teachers & staff special experiences, like the massages, on behalf of all the families at JFK throughout the year. Donations can be made HERE or using the button below. The Playground Sub-Committee is continuing to advocate for a new playground at JFK. If you’d like to hear more about how you can help, please reach out. We are specifically looking for folks interested in making a public comment at the city wide school committee meetings (see info below). Este año, ha sido un objetivo del Dr. Copeland y del Consejo Familiar hacer que el reconocimiento a los maestros sea más equitativo, tanto para las familias como para el personal, y también encontrar formas de demostrar nuestro aprecio a nuestros maestros y personal durante todo el año escolar, y no solo durante la semana reconocida a nivel nacional en el mes de mayo.
