Hello, JFK Families.
I hope you are doing well and are having a great start to the school year. At the JFK, we are excited to announce that we have started the school year with 376 students and two 6th grade classrooms. We have a number of new staff members join our community and a number of staff members who have transitioned into different roles in service of our students.
New Members of the JFK Community

Transitioned to New Roles
A few staff members have transitioned into different roles, supporting our students in different capacities.
- Ms. Snowdon transitioned back to teaching math. She is our 6th grade math teacher.
- Ms. Geraghty is now working as our Reading Specialist. She supports students across all grade levels and leads professional learning for staff members.
- Mr. Luis has transitioned from a classroom paraprofessional to our Community Field Coordinator.
At the JFK, we are continuing to implement BPS’ focus on Equitable Literacy by ensuring that our students develop strong foundational skills in reading, make sense of what they read, and see themselves reflected in what they read. The JFK’s Instructional Focus is as follows: All JFK educators will engage students in rigorous academic discourse grounded in daily work with complex and enabling text that supports text based disciplinary writing. All of our professional learning with the staff will be grounded in the tenets of equitable literacy.
Literacy Night/ Vaccine Clinic
On Wednesday, October 19th from 5:00pm-7:30 we will host our annual literacy night entitled: Stories Under the Stars. We are partnering wit h Scholastic Books and will be hosting a book fair leading up to the literacy event. At our literacy night, we will also host a vaccine clinic for our JFK students, families, and the larger JP community. I will be sending out more information about the literacy night and the vaccine clinic next week.
Dismissal
Dismissal is a crucial time at the JFK. If you are adjusting your child/ren dismissal plan, please call the main office at (617) 635-8127 by 11:30 am. If you are picking up your child/ren early, please do so before 2:30. At 2:30, we start the dismissal process, and our priority is ensuring that all 376 students are safely dismissed.
Curriculum Night
At this point, I know that most teachers have already had their curriculum informational sessions with families. If you have not heard from your classroom teacher, please reach out to me so that I can connect you with your child’s teacher.
Return to the uniform
This year, we are returning to all students wearing the uniform. Students can be creative with their uniforms. Our tops are navy blue, light blue, or white with khaki or navy blue bottoms.

Espero que les esté yendo bien y que estén teniendo un buen comienzo del año escolar. En el JFK, nos complace anunciar que hemos comenzado el año escolar con 376 estudiantes y dos aulas de sexto grado. Hemos tenido una cantidad de nuevos miembros del personal que se unieron a nuestra comunidad y una cantidad de miembros del personal que han hecho la transición a diferentes roles al servicio de nuestros estudiantes.

Transición a nuevos roles
Algunos miembros del personal han hecho la transición a diferentes roles, apoyando a nuestros estudiantes en diferentes capacidades.
- La Sra. Snowdon volvió a enseñar matemáticas. Ella es nuestra maestra de matemáticas de sexto grado.

Noche de Alfabetización/Clínica de Vacunas
El miércoles 19 de octubre de 5:00 pm a 7:30 tendremos nuestra noche de alfabetización anual titulada: Historias bajo las estrellas. Nos asociamos con Scholastic Books y organizaremos una feria del libro antes del evento de alfabetización. En nuestra noche de alfabetización, también organizaremos una clínica de vacunas para nuestros estudiantes, familias y la comunidad de JP en general. Enviaré más información sobre la noche de alfabetización y la clínica de vacunas la próxima semana.
Despido
despido es un momento crucial en el JFK. Si está ajustando el plan de despido de su(s) hijo(s), llame a la oficina principal al (617) 635-8127 antes de las 11:30 am. Si va a recoger a sus hijos temprano, hágalo antes de las 2:30. A las 2:30, comenzamos el proceso de salida y nuestra prioridad es garantizar que los 376 estudiantes salgan de manera segura.
Noche de currículo
En este punto, sé que la mayoría de los maestros ya han tenido sus sesiones informativas de currículo con las familias. Si no ha tenido noticias de su maestro de clase, comuníquese conmigo para que pueda conectarlo con el maestro de su hijo.
Regreso al uniforme
Este año, estamos regresando a que todos los estudiantes usen el uniforme. Los estudiantes pueden ser creativos con sus uniformes. Nuestras camisetas son de color azul marino, azul claro o blanco con fondos de color caqui o azul marino.
